Tooting Your Own Horn: Shameless Self-Promotion to Get Ahead

You probably grew up like I did, with your mother trying to instill in you a sense of propriety and humility. As kids, we are fearless about shouting out our accomplishments and trying to out-do one another. As we get older, though, we pick up on clues that other people don't like it when we brag about ourselves and we learn to keep our successes hidden. What we don't learn, though, is the right way to get credit for what we do professionally.

What are some of the things you heard growing up?

"You'll break your arm, patting yourself on the back."

"You have two ears and one mouth, so listen twice as much as you talk."

Or, my mother's favorite, "Self-praise stinks."

There's a wide gulf between practicing humility and promoting ourselves at work. What works to our advantage in a social setting (or with our family) doesn't always translate to the workplace. So, how do we make sure our accomplishments get noticed?

1. Own your success. Men learn this early on watch any pro football player who's just waltzed over the goal line. He celebrates immediately and publicly, making sure that everyone knows that he's the MAN! If men in business could carry footballs, they'd be spiking them in the boardroom. Women are taught to be humble and will frequently attribute their success to "luck" or to the efforts of other people. Sure, your team worked hard to come up with the new marketing strategy, but aren't you the head of that team? By all means, make sure they get credit, but don't short-change YOU every team needs a leader and, if you're it, stand up and take the leader's share of the applause.

2. Develop a good story. Salespeople all learn something called the "elevator speech" a 30-second tidbit given in response to the question, "What do you do?" Even though you may not think you're in sales, you need to start seeing your work as a commodity and you as the salesperson who's touting the benefits. Don't just say, "Oh, I'm in marketing"; say, "You know that ad with the elephant playing tag with the rabbit? I'm head of the advertising team that developed it. And let me tell you elephants are no pleasure to work with!" A good story makes you sound interesting and approachable, and gives the other person a place to take the conversation to.

3. Pass the word. If you get an "attaboy" from a client, send a copy to your boss. (Better yet ask the client to write a note to your boss). If your boss sends you a "great job" note, send a copy to the district manager. If the district manager thanks you, send a copy to your boss and to the regional managerand so forth. You get the picture.

4. Network, network, network. Savvy professionals know that no matter where they are or who they're talking with, they're networking. You never know when your airplane seatmate, cab driver or son's soccer coach will be your next big business contact. When you show up fully everywhere and express yourself with authenticity, passion and conviction, it generates attention. When your cab driver's nephew is looking for the perfect widget-maker for a huge order, wouldn't it be great if you just happened to be in his uncle's cab, tooting your own horn?

Remember: good work isn't necessarily its own reward. It doesn't matter how great you are, if no one knows you're alive. So get out there and start choreographing your end-zone celebration!

Profitable Affiliate Marketing Using Incentive Offers

The biggest companies want to sell their products and services on the Internet. One of the best ways to market their products and services online is by offering a commission to website owners. This is done by setting up an affiliate program where webmasters can pick up the links to offers and promote them on their web sites in exchange for affiliate commissions for each sale made.

Webmasters have many ways to promote these affiliate offers - on websites, by email, with pay-per-click search engines, writing and distributing articles, etc.

However, a little-known way to promote these offers is by using incentives to online surfers who agree to buy a product or service from the webmaster.

One of the best ways to market incentive offers is by building a membership-based website and giving free cash to members who agree to accept affiliate products and services.

Here are the steps for setting up a successful incentive-based website:

1. You'll have to build a database-driven website where new members can sign up and start browsing offers after logging in. Such websites usually promote at least a hundred of various offers. You should offer your members about 50% of the commission that you recieve from an affiliate program.

One of the biggest disadvantages in starting an incentive-based website is that the scripts for running such program are quite complicated. However, if you don't know Internet programming and cannot build the website by yourself, you can hire someone to create the scripts for you or purchase them online.

2. After your website is up and running, you should apply for affiliate networks that allow incentive traffic. When your application is approved you should set up offers on your website.

3. You should market the incentive offers not only on your website but by email too. Sending paid email to your members is one of the best ways to increase your profit. You should reward your members with a certain amount of cash for reading each paid email and redirect them to affiliate offers where they can earn even more extra cash by accepting the offers.

4. Since the incentive traffic is usually limited to certain countries, you should promote your website to the visitors of these countries only. The best ways to drive targeted traffic to your incentive-based website are: pay-per-click search engines, email marketing and affiliate marketing (by setting up your own affiliate program).

5. You should manage your website by setting up new offers, paying members their earned payments, suspending fraudulent accounts and tracking your website advertising campaigns.

Some incentive-based websites offer a point system. It means that members earn points instead of cash. Later these points can be redeemed for cash or any other items.

Incentive marketing on the Internet can be very profitable. Anyone can start an excellent home-business online within several weeks and run it spending only a couple of hours per day. It doesn't require any complicated and time-consuming content writing for websites and newsletters. The investment in scripts is low.

Is Phone Sales Skill a Lost Art?

A Little Phone Sales Training Will Go a Long Way. Here's a Real example...

We all know sales is full of slippery slopes and if something can go wrong, it probably will. After all, the sales process consists of sales prospecting, sales presenting, closing the deal, sales paperwork, order provisioning and order fulfillment.

All of these elements have an opportunity for a breakdown of sorts that will always come back to us; the sales person.

If we could just sell and not have to deal with all the other albatrosss life would be better; right?

Well, maybe. That is if you want to leave a bunch of money on the table at the end of the year. So, what do I mean?

Heres an example that happened just today. And it happened to me. I picked out a permission-based e-mail marketing company to market my new SalesSpeakerPro.com web site. I thought Id test the waters with a small e-mail blast to beta the overall results and determine how this SEO company will partner with me in line with my strategic company goals.

Because as Popeye says, I yam what I yam what I yam.

If they fulfilled their service promises and I received a return on my marketing investment, Id expand the campaign and spend more money with them. Business 101.

In my first career as a professional Pilot, I came to understand that its not just one human error in the flight mission that will cause the plane to crash, its a series of human errors and miss-judgments that lead up to the aircrafts Sudden Stop.

And 98% of airplane accidents are directly caused by human error, not mechanical failure.

As professional sales people, heres what we know to be true. Any product or service implementation has a finite number of scenarios that can and will arise. A percentage of them are not good. Things like bad cutovers, faulty installations, mechanical bumps, network outages and software spikes to name a few.

But understanding that, you might think service providers would have contingency plans in place to identify problems as they arise and communicating to the customer a pro-active internal process to remedy the situation.

You would think.

In my case, my sales rep sent me a contract that stated I would have a web-based admin panel to view the results of my e-mail campaign; because if you dont measure it you cant improve it.

The standard result benchmark for e-mail campaigns is measured in e-mail Open rates and Click-through rates to the web page URL you wish the e-mail Call to Action to take your prospect.

And the results should be viewed over 24-48 hours to campaign completion.

For my industry and my type of target prospects I was told I could expect an e-mail open rate of 15-25% and a Click-through rate of 7-15%. Based on a test campaign of 35,000 targeted permission-based e-mails that should bring 367 sales and HR executives to my new sales speaker website at a minimum and at a maximum I should expect about 1312.

So here we go. Heres the blow by blow sequence of events that led to the Sudden stop of the airplane.

Phone call from rep to me; 10:35 AM

Me:

Jim, have you ever been to the outer islands in the Bahamas?

Rep:

Yes, I have in fact.

Me:

What did you think of the service; good or bad?

Rep:

It was kind of slow, I guess.

Me:

Thats what I thought also. In fact, I left with the impression that if they had it their way, theyd prefer that I just sent my money and not even shown up.

Rep:

Silence

Me:

The reason I mention it is thats the way Im feeling about my experience with your Company.

Kind of like; Just send us your money and dont show up. Do you feel thats fair?

Rep:

The server has been down and Ive been dealing with all that. Besides, I assumed that you were going to call me.

Do you want the word Assumed on your career Tombstone?

Now, I cant make this stuff up folks. And it happens out there all the time. My point is this young man was leaving money on the Table and he did not even know it.

Here was my advice to him pertaining to the plane crash anecdote consisting of series of human errors and miss-judgments before the Sudden Stop occurs. And in his case, the plane landing was no Walk-a-way!

Error 1: Promising something you may not be able to deliver for Conditional reasons and not having a contingency communication plan in place in line with all possible scenarios and remedies.

Error 2: Not following through on a contracted service component to the customer in time for the intended service, in this case, the ADMIN tracker. Simply put, not having all your Ducks in a Row.

Error 3: Not training the customer to a critical service component

Error 4: Not following up with the customer as requested

Error 5: When addressed, not Hearing the customers concerns

Error 6: Not Picking up the phone and pro-actively communicating to the customer there is a technical problem

Error 7 (The Sudden STOP): Not honoring a customer request for direct communication to a higher authority within your company

I gave this sales person my best advice for his career. It goes like this:

When the stuff hits the fan, and we know it will, pick up the phone and talk with the customer. Dont bury your head in the sand and think it will all go away. And have a Crisis management game plan. It goes like this.

Heres a pro-active process for customer experience and future sales for you.

Let them vent

Show empathy: I understand what youre feeling. If it were me, Id feel the same way.

Thank them for bringing this to your attention: Im sorry I missed this before you had to call me, but Im glad you did, because I need to know.

Paraphrase their main points and concerns: Let me take a minute and repeat back to you what I hear your concerns are.

Reassure the customer you will do everything possible to resolve their concern: At the end of this conversation, youll go back to work and Ill start my work for you.

Document the facts: Im picking up a pen to list all the pieces and parts of our situation. Please go ahead, one by one.

Communicate the steps you will take internally to remedy the situation, one by one.

Set accountability and follow-up timelines by telephone and e-mail and make sure it's done (Even if you pass it off to another division)

When situation is remedied, follow-up personally and 'close the loop' by telephone again. Recap all the issues and ask if everything has been completed to their satisfaction.

Then ask them directly if they will consider doing business with you in the future. And if not, what you can personally do to change their mind.

By following a few steps of solid business process, you can re-route the plane crash and gain a loyal long term customer that will add revenue to your company, provide future referrals and put more jingle in your commission pocket.

So next time have a Safe landing.

Internet Marketing and the Golfer Mentality

As a qualified PGA golf professional who taught golf for 15 years before injury and moved into Internet Marketing as a career, I was amazed to see the striking similarities between the approaches of people to two significantly different activities. I now focus on teaching IM and apply very similar principles to my Internet Marketing clients as I used to my golf students.

The hunger of people for quick fix solutions has always been something that has intrigued me. I look at society and see successful people and admire the work that has gone into them achieving their goals, no matter what field they are in. The top Doctor's and Lawyers of any age have spent years learning their trade. Sportsmen such as Tiger Woods work at incredibly high level on their sport to stay at the top. Celebrities such as Gordon Ramsay, achieve their status through incredible application and work ethics.

It is clear that a high percentage of society look at these people and want similar lifestyles but without an idea of the work involved to see the finished product that we see in our operating theatres, sports arenas, courtrooms and tv screens. The two fields I work in are no different.

Both golf and Internet Marketing allow for the quick fix mindset to take over and ruin our hopes of improvement. both industries are susceptible to sensationalist headlines, designed to draw in consumers.

In Golf, magazines will boast headlines such as "Break 80 in 7 days" or "Hit it 40 yards longer with Tigers method" Equipment manufacturers will boast that their ball, clubs even golf shoes will have you hitting the ball longer and straighter than ever before.

In Internet Marketing similar headlines would be "Earn $20,000 a month in just two hours a day at your PC" or "Warning: You're about to discover the affiliate secrets that the gurus have been keeping from you. The methods the real super affiliates use to make $500 per day, finally revealed by the one guy they trusted to keep quiet" as one particular ebook sales page boasted. The writers of the copy know exactly what buttons to press and which mindset they are tapping into.

The "desperation" mindset, "the easy life" mindset and the "all I have to do is buy the product/magazine/ebook and I am set for life" mindset.

As anyone following this route will know it generally ends in disappointment, and then giving up.

How do I know?

When my career in golf was ended with a back injury, I slipped into the desperation mindset, all of a sudden I was panicing where the money would come from. I found the wonderful tool of the internet, and the sensational headlines of instant riches had me reaching for my credit card. $2000 later I had about 50 ebooks, I had read about 10 and had not made a dime.

Every day I had a new Internet Marketing thought that was going to make me rich, then the next ebook arrived and I was away on something new.

Then as I opened a credit card bill, which had 15 internet marketing products on it, the thought dawned on me that I was no different as a newcomer to Internet Marketing and trying to make money online, than the golf students I had taught for years.

Day after day I would stand on the range and listen to golfers tales of woe. They had watched every DVD, read every magazine, listened to the guys on the TV, spent $3000 on the latest equipment, BUT STILL COULD NOT break 100.

I used to spend my first 40 minute session with such customers, not hitting a golf ball, but by clarifying the thought process that led them to believe that a magazine article could instantly improve them, or a new driver would go 50 yards further than the one they used last week. I used to explain that all good golfers had one thing in common, good sound fundamentals, aim, grip , posture etc. A GOOD SET UP, which enabled them to then swing the club correctly, thus executing the intended shot.

I needed to apply the same techniques to my Internet Marketing business. Of course there is no book that will instantly make me rich, I was chasing around like the golfer, who has a new swing thought every day, I had a new IM idea every day.

In golf it is proven that a step by step plan through the set up will lead to a LONG LASTING more consistent technique. I would put my students on a minimum six week course, in which I banned them from reading, books, magazines and watching DVD's. I would give them one element of the SET UP such as AIM and that was there weeks practice. Once they had mastered that element ONLY then would we move onto the next project. What happened? I built a "stable" of successful clients and had a record of players who consistently improved and practiced better.

The process I went through in IM was exactly the same. First I had to visualise my "shot". What was it that I was trying to build, for the LONG TERM. Once that was identified which skills did I need to execute it. There are numerous aspects to the SET UP of a successful Internet Marketing business, from building websites, copy writing, SEO, advertising, product selection, the list is extensive. Each skill needs to be learned, and then applied, learn 5 or 6 skills you have a SET UP. Just like golf you have it for life!

There is a $10,000 dollar a month income to be made, but it will not fall in your lap. To succeed takes work. If you have the golfer mentality in you, try and recognise it, not only will your game improve your life will to.

Next time - Step by Step through the IM set up.

Iain Higgins, is an active member of the Professional Golfers Association who still teaches golf today. His golf coaching was limited by injury so he then applied his techniques of golf coaching to IM. Having made $500,000 in two years he turned to training others in Internet Marketing. In 2005 he took 12 students through his Immentor programme and 10 now earn 5 figure monthly incomes.Mirilla Blog64287

Lessons from Legacy: Life by Design Part 2

Making the Best Choices

We are each the sum total of the choices we have made to date. If we want a new reality, we have to make new choices. After all, the very definition of insanity is to do the same thing always and expect a different result. When we change our actions, we change our results. A perfect case in point is my Godmother, famed Hollywood costumer Edith Head. At age thirty she was teaching French to an all girls school in California, and because she had studied a semester abroad in Europe the school assumed she could also teach art. She in fact couldn't draw more than stick figures but took on the task. While looking in the paper one day, she saw a contest for drawing costumes for one of the major movie studios.

She wanted a change in career and boldly without permission "borrowed" some of her student's sketches and entered the contest. She won! When showing up on the first day and being asked to draw, she was found out, but her courage and presumption so captivated the costume designer that he took her on. The rest is history including 8 Oscars for costume design over a 50-year career. She lived a life of her own design.

What have you not pursued because you didn't have the skill set or the connections? Can you learn it? Who can help you?

Living from the Heart

Life is in the living, not in the stuff. Stuff more often than not simply weighs us down and stands in our way. In order to move forward, to continue growing and changing, we must let things go. Those elements we keep with us must serve as inspiration and memories, not as baggage. What you bring forward is up to you. My mother, Anne Baxter, was an academy award winning actress to many. To me she was a single working parent, too often gone on location and on tour. But she taught valuable lessons. She knew from age seven that she wanted to act and pursued it with a singlemindedness that few of us possess for anything in our lives. At the same time she managed to write an autobiography about her life with my father, and was in the middle of the second one about her life growing up when she died. Mother lived each and every moment with passion, vigor, and commitment to her finest. She challenged us to do the same and instilled the value I describe here. She lived her life by her own design.

When Mother passed some 20+ years ago now, we each had only a file folder of mementos that she had kept (I have two sisters). This was such a gift rather than what I see so often with clients. They keep hordes of baby clothes, bronzed shoes, elementary school artwork projects most of us would soon forget, broken trophies from days gone by and too much more. Mother saved the best, the things that really counted to her and hence they mattered to us. What better gift. The most significant legacy she left was the memories of times spent together, not the stuff left behind. When you live from your heart and your mind, not by your hand and your purse, you will truly know that it is the connections and relationships that define us, not our possessions. He who dies with the most toys, still dies.

What are you hording in terms of stuff? How is it holding you back?

The 4Cs of Affiliate Marketing

If you currently run or are thinking about running your own affiliate program, then this article is for you.

There are 4 major things that each and every affiliate program needs to have if it is to be a success. Luckily for me they all begin with C so it is easy to remember.

Commission, Creative, Consistency, and Communication

Let's take a look at each one in turn. To the affiliate this is the correct order of importance when joining a program. However, as the affiliate program manager this needs to be slightly altered but we will get to that later!

Commission

The biggest differentiator to the affiliate is money. How much will they get paid for selling your product or service? How you structure this is really dependent on the type of product or service you are offering but really you have 3 options. Pay Per Sale, Pay per Lead or Pay Per Click. There are other options but to be honest these are the main ones.

When deciding on what commissions to pay, be realistic. If you don't really know how much you can afford to pay out then air on the side of caution. You want to pay out what you can afford to. Running a program for 2 months and then realise you have to reduce your commission payments to affiliates can be a program killer.

Creative

How many times have you joined an affiliate program only to find there are no creative to promote the program? How are they going to promote your product or service if you do not help them. You must provide the affiliates with everything they need to sell your product. If you had a real sales force, you would give them marketing materials in order to sell the customer, so the affiliate program is no different.

Banners, buttons, text links, HTML email, text email, classified ads copy, content, articles, and product reviews are all things that you can us to give the affiliate the creative they need to sell or pre-sell your product or service.

Consistency

Whenever you commit to running an affiliate program, be consistent, if you are sending out updates or updating creative on a regular basis make sure you remain consistent. If you want make it a certain day of the month. Affiliates will then get used to expecting things from you at a given time of the month. They can then almost factor that into their workloads. Remember affiliates can have two jobs, two hundred websites to manage so try to accommodate that in your thinking.

If you lose consistency, it will show the affiliate that you don't care about there efforts. They will switch off you like a shot. Remember there will always be someone else out there running an affiliate program in a similar space to you. An affiliate will show loyalty if you treat them right.

Communication

Perhaps last but no means least is Communication. You need to communicate to affiliates for two main reasons. Firstly, to update them on any new product changes, new creative, new commission structures. So in effect , to keep them informed with what's going on with you and your business that will help them drive more sales.

Secondly, you need to keep in touch will affiliates to make them feel important and to help train them. If you stay in touch on a regular basis and provide them with tools and training materials, they will learn more about driving traffic and sales to your products. They will be much more switched on to you for helping them.

Now I know some of you will be thinking that they will take your knowledge and help and use it elsewhere. Yes they will. But there will be lots of affiliates out there that will be joining an affiliate program for the first time or do not know who to do certain things and will feel loyal to you.

This is the most important C for Affiliate Program managers, building relationships and loyalty with affiliates through Communication. Think of it as an insurance policy so when a competitor comes along with the same product and offers the same commission or even in some instances a higher commission you will find you will keep your affiliates.

Running an affiliate program is a hugely rewarding project, get it right and you make a large sum of money for not just you but your affiliates too. Always remember the 4 C's when constructing a program or revisiting a program which isn't working that well.

Good Luck!

Are you one of the many people who spends more each month than they earn? Do you wonder how you can get off the merry-go-round of continuous debt that debilitates you and makes your life miserable? If you relate to either of these statements, your salvation may just be at hand. Darlene (Dar) Arechederra's "Rat Race Blues for Women" details a refreshingly different approach from the usual advice about budgeting that so many other get-out-of-debt books offer.

Dar's aim is to help you, "... enjoy your life more, put you on the path to cutting back on work hours, or teach you to set yourself up for leaving your job completely." She does that by stepping readers through a number of strategies for trimming expenditure and paying out your debts in an easy to read, conversational manner.

Her e-book is small, but concise and is based on her experience as one of those who had money managing problems, but who overcame them to move on to a bigger, better future. What worked for her, she infers, will work for you. And because it all makes so much sense and is so easy to implement, I'm sure it will.

Surprisingly, she advises readers to give budgeting the 'flick' (my word, not hers!) and shows us how more money is not the solution we all think it is. Instead, she shows us how to trim a bit here and a bit there until it becomes a habit that reduces our expenditure and increases our savings ... incremental salvation, or a step-by-step approach rather than the cold turkey approach many books recommend.

Dar steps readers through an income and expenditure statement which is necessary to see where your affairs are at present so you can identify areas where you can make adjustments. This process itself is a good part of our learning experience because often we aren't aware of where our hard earned money is disappearing.

There were two things that appealed to me most about this title; Dar encourages readers to begin a Life Book with their goals and ideas. These help you to focus on what you want and how to achieve them. Just as a matter of self-discovery, I spent a little time thinking about what I need most from life at present. I opted for continuing good health, without which nothing else is of much use, friends which we all need to enjoy ourselves, and good fun, but I'm closer to the end of my life than I would expect most readers of this title will be. They will be where I was thirty years ago ... in debt, earning a low income while raising two children, so their needs will likely include much to do with money. Of course, this is the target audience, not Baby Boomers like me!

The other thing I liked was the insightful case studies Dar included, helping readers live through the lives of Paul and Marcy, middle class Americans. They were incredibly realistic and the people involved came alive for me. I could see my wife and I in their shoes. One or two of the questions raised during the case study were questions I had pondered very recently, even after 30 years of marriage. You will recognise some aspects of your life or relationship in the case studies also. I promise.

The one thing I'm surprised at is why Dar has written this book just for women. There are just as many men who need help to get their debts under control and win back their lives for whom this title would be of great benefit.

This book is about taking control of your life and winning your financial freedom. It will help you get out of debt, save for a home business, build an online business, and much more. It's well written and has excellent advice that is different from others I have read about the same topic. If you really want to make a difference in your life, grab a copy now and implement Dar's recommendations immediately. In the long run, it will be money well invested.

Leveraged Income

Linear Income Vs Passive Income

At a very recent party , during the dinner hours I could meet a very notable industrialist . I am quite younger to him , rather he was quite senior to me age wise too. Incidentally , he happened to be a professional friend of my father , and he had seen me quite young , as a child.

He was quite amazed and asked me , What do you do ? Business my answer. I told him that I run a manufacturing unit , which has 12-13 workmen & 2-3 in staff & get a reasonably good sales turn-over. Here is the conversation between us :

So, this is your business , eh?

Yeah

I am going out of country for a month , will you join me ?

One month impossible . I cant leave my BUSINESS for a single week also

Dear , if you cant leave your business , its not business , its employment

But I am not orking for anybody

But you are working for yourself & businesses are run without personal presence

Hmm

I can leave my business for 1 complete year also and when I return , I can see it flourishes

How ? Why its not possible with me ?

In your BUSINESS , YOU are the system , there is no ther system , you are self employed

What is the difference ?

You will get paid till you work : Linear Income , I get paid even if I dont work I have a system & that system works : This is passive income.

The people who have learnt the techniques of making money , passively , are true businessmen , otherwise they are Employees OR self Employed Is not it ?

Robert Kiyosaki , in his all books , stresses heavily on this point. Building many businesses & buying assets is the key by which people become rich , acquire wealth. By working for someone else , we shall not become wealthy , never!

Associate Marketing: Is It the Simplest Means To Make Money Online?

Affiliate marketing has been around long before the internet, but it has become so much more popular as a way to make money since then. Let's take a quick look at what it is and what it is exactly that makes it so special, shall we?

Affiliate marketing is not about writing your own product and trying to find people to buy it. Affiliate marketing is about recommending someone else's product or products and making a percentage from that sale. It's basically piggybacking on the efforts of other peoples work, which is ok, because they want you to!

These marketers who have their own products will be very eager for you to recommend their products. If they know what they are doing then you are their best friend! And you can easily have a great, profitable business relationship with these other marketers; they create the products and you sell them!

This is really great for both the affiliate and the creator of the product. The average affiliate marketer just wants to make some extra money. They do not bother with creating products or services or even handling other tasks that come along with being a product creator or owner, like customer service, updates, upgrades, etc. Great affiliates are really good at figuring out what people want to buy and then directing those people to the product. This is one of the many wonderful advantages to being an affiliate marketer: It is not your job to sell the item. It is your job to simply pre-sell the item. Let the items sell themselves.

Affiliate marketing can be even more lucrative for the affiliate marketer by offering buyers incentives for buying through your affiliate link. What kind of special offers? Well, the smartest affiliates are affiliates that have actually tried the product or service they are promoting. When the affiliate has actually tried the product, they can create better offers based on what they know of the product! The affiliate marketer that does this can provide additional reports or even videos that explain the advantages or secrets of what the buyer can do with the product or service! If you are an affiliate marketer selling a software application, then you can tell your visitors that they will receive a video from you showing the best ways to make use of the software program.

Back to the original question: Is affiliate marketing the easiest path to make good money online? Without a doubt, yes, it is. Once you take into consideration the fact that you do not have to make a product and all that you have to do is promote products to people that are already looking for products you are promoting, taking candy from a baby could not be easier.

John Gottshall has a FREE step by step guide to making money online. It is not one of those guides that's disquised as a sales letter for something that costs money, it's the real thing. Get it while it's still free => http://www.secretprofitfiles.comMamie Blog15315

Affiliate Mangers - How To Energize Your Affiliate Force

I've been told by a number of managers of HUGE affiliate programs that 95% of their sales come from their top 25 (or fewer affiliates). When you consider the fact that some affiliate programs have thousands, even tens of thousands of affiliates, that's actually pretty sad!

The fact is that most affiliates join an affiliate program, and then do nothing. Why is that. It's generally because being a great affiliate marketer can be hard WORK.

Even the top producing affiliates are not big fans of hard work. They often have insider techniques that they use but don't discuss with anyone.

So how does an affiliate program manager energize his affiliate force?

Since affiliates don't like hard work, the obvious answer is to make it easy for them. You do this by providing easy to use tools. For example, if you could have your affiliates just share a video with their lists and website visitors, that's really easy. Often, they'll use a tool like this or a branded PDF file, when they wouldn't use other tools. Part of the reason they'd do that is that often their list members enjoy these info product and don't seem to notice that they're being sold.

Video works so beautifully because the prospect isn't even require to do any WORK. They just sit and watch. We're all conditioned to watch television and movies. However, many of us have grown to hate reading... it's too much like work, and reminds us of when we were in school, and often had burdensome reading loads.

If only Camtasia-style videos could be branded easily with affiliate links that then redirected the viewer to the affiliate site, this would be heaven - right.

Well, you can very easily brand Camtasia videos with affiliate urls. There's absolutely NO reason that every affiliate in your affiliate force can't be given a personalized (branded) version of your sales-producing videos. That would get a lot more of the hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of affiliates on your team, actually out promoting your products.

The real secrets that you've taken advantage of is the facts that:

1) For many affiliates, you really do have to do it for them.

2) You have to make your affiliates feel special. Giving them a video to distribute that has their url embedded accomplishes that. With Camtasia, the video will play, and at the end of the video, deliver your affiliate's prospect right to the sales page or order form.

4) You need to give your affiliates the tools that they prefer to use. This sometimes differs but video is really hot these days. It's hot with your affiliates' customers too, because they don't have to work... they just sit and watch, and buy :-)

5) Many affiliates worry about protecting their sales. They worry about other affiliates hijacking their links. With branded Camtasia-style video, as the customer is taken to the sales page, you can also "set the cookie." Depending upon how your affiliate program software is configured, you can prevent that cookie from being overwritten.

Offering your affiliate the easy to use tools that they prefer does one other things - it makes them loyal to YOU. Many affiliates display no real loyalty, and hop from product to product... often going to competing products. If you're offering a tool like branded video, and your competitors aren't, your affiliates will stick with your affiliate program.

Ok, so we've just covered a few ideas on how to really energize your affiliate force. Doing the things covered above can easily double or even triple your affiliate sales. The key to doing that is taking massive action. Start by learning how inexpensive and easy it is to offer your affilates branded videos. You can do that at: http://williecrawford.com/brander/

FHA Mortgage Loans

FHA mortgage loans are alternatives to conventional financing for your home purchase. The FHA (Federal Housing Administration) helps to make low cost home loans available to thousands of new and current homeowners each year. FHA mortgage loans require minimal down payments and the interest rate is typically slightly lower than prevailing conventional rates.

The FHA currently insures more than 800,000 mortgage loans. This agency has helped originate more than 33 million since it was created in 1934 as part of the New Deal. The FHA does not fund the mortgage loans itself. It does insure the lender that it will not incur any loss if the borrower defaults. In this way, lenders are encouraged to make loans to low and middle income borrowers to whom they would not otherwise extend credit.

Buyers of single family homes can put as little as 3% down when obtaining an FHA mortgage loan. Good credit history is not necessary, although is definitely a "+." Income to loan payment, and to total monthly payment, ratio requirements are slightly less stringent than for conventional mortgage loans. The FHA sometimes will also help finance the closing costs. Ask your lender about this. Requirements for this kind of assistance vary widely from locale to locale.

This sounds pretty good, doesn't it? Well, "not so fast..." The FHA requires extensive property inspections that cost the seller lots of time and money. Largely because of this, most sellers will not accept an offer if the buyer intends to obtain FHA-insured financing. The acronym "FHA" unfortunately has acquired bad connotations for many real estate professionals and their clients.

Also, the FHA severely limits how much the lender can charge in fees. The bank cannot lose money because of the FHA insurance. However, it cannot profit as much as when it commits its money to other mortgage loans. Lenders have to be FHA-approved in order to make FHA mortgage loans. Few lenders choose to become FHA-approved.

However, there is a big exception to this circumstance. The FHA serves locales (and, of course, the people who wish to obtain financing for homes in these areas) that would not otherwise be attractive to lenders. Most very large, big city lenders are FHA-approved, and a significant portion of the home loans that they originate are FHA mortgage loans.

If you intend to move into your own home in the country or in an "upper middle class" suburb, the FHA probably won't be of use to you. But perhaps you want to live right in a major metropolitan area with all its amenities close by. If so, and if a large down payment is a problem, an FHA mortgage loan could be a great way for you to finance the purchase of your home.

The Time Value of Money

The time value of money (TVM) is an investment principle that states money is valued greater today than in the future due to inflation and economic conditions. Essentially, a dollar in your pocket today is worth more than a dollar in the future because money may be invested and earn interest over time. The notion of TVM is money is worth more the earlier it is received.

If you loaned a friend $20, would you rather get the money back today or a year from now? You should want the cash today. Think back to the price of movie tickets 10 years ago. The price for a movie ticket at one point was just a few dollars and has risen to almost $10 due to the factor of inflation. By receiving cash today, rather than the future, you can invest the money into an alternate source and potentially receive a higher return for your money. Future value includes the amount of money you would earn through growth in your investments in the future assuming a given interest rate. It is what the cash is worth at a particular time in the future, while present value refers to the value of a given sum of money today. The same principle applies to real estate notes. A real estate note, a mortgage for example, is created with specific terms, conditions and a length of time for its return. In order to exchange the note for cash, a notes present value is determined through a discount analysis to appraise its current worth, which will differ from the notes value in 10 years.

To demonstrate TVM and why it can be more advantageous to have money now rather than the future, consider the following example. If you own a real estate note that is appraised at present value for $150,000 you can cash out now and spend the money, or you can invest in alternate sources for a higher return on your investment. By receiving the money today, you can avoid dealing with late payments and the risk of not receiving a payment at all. Immediate cash appeals to most much more than receiving money in the future. The following illustration of TVM shows the change in value of $150,000 over a year if invested with a rate of return of 10 percent.

Future Value = (Present Value) x (1 + Rate of Return)

Future Value = (150,000) x (1 + 10%)

Future Value = (150,000) x (1.1)

Future Value = $165,000

Understanding the time value of money is essential to achieving financial success, as this concept allows you to evaluate the potential value of money today in comparison to the future. When you talk about mortgages, loans, car notes and retirement funds, the practical knowledge of time value of money can help you accomplish the wealth you have longed for.

Cisco CCNA Certification Exam FAQ: Discussing 640-801 And 640-802

The prestigious Cisco CCNA certification is going to become even more prestigious later this year - and from all accounts, even more difficult! The current 640-801 exam will be phased out on November 6, giving candidates plenty of time to prepare for that exam. The new 640-802 exam is actually being introduced August 1, giving CCNA candidates an option as to which exam to take.

Naturally, CCNA candidates have a lot of questions regarding these changes. I've prepared this FAQ to answer the most common questions arriving in my email inbox. If your question isn't answered here, send it to me and your question just might be in the next FAQ!

Q: Should I stop studying for the 640-801 exam?

A: Absolutely not. Actually, this should help you accelerate your efforts! Cisco has been kind enough to keep the current exam around through November 6, so you have more than enough time to pass the current version. Also, while I'm sure there will be some 640-802 study tools available soon, you won't have a wide selection until later this year. Never delay your career progress or your studies - hit those books and pass the 640-801!

On a personal note, I've taken Cisco certification exams for almost a decade as well as taking exams from other vendors for about 14 years, and I've never been big on taking a brand-new exam. Some people like to do so, though- it's all a matter of personal preference.

Q. What's this I hear about another Cisco certification being offered?

A. Cisco no longer views the CCNA as an entry-level exam, and I think that's a fantastic change. I have personally taught and written CCNA materials for several years, and I have never considered the CCNA to be entry-level. When you're troubleshooting OSPF virtual links, you are not working at entry level!

Cisco does recognize the need for an entry-level certification, and that's why they've developed the CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) certification. I'll have more details on that in a future article, but earning the CCENT is not required to become a CCNA.

Q. Is there still going to be a one-exam path and a two-exam path to the CCNA?

A. Yes, and again, I expect it to be more difficult to earn either way. If you choose the two-exam path, you're actually going to take two ICND exams - ICND 1 (640-822) and ICND 2 (640-816). The INTRO exam for the current CCNA path will be phased out on November 6, along with the current ICND and CCNA exams. If you choose the two-exam path, passing the ICND 1 exam will make you a CCENT.

Q. Which topics will be dropped when the 640-801 exam is dropped?

A. Following the trend of other Cisco exams, the 640-802 exams will not test on ISDN. That's the only major topic I see so far that will be dropped. This exam isnt getting any easier!

Q. Which topics will be added?

A. A *lot* of them. According to Cisco's CCNA exam blueprint, you can expect to see questions on Voice over IP, wireless, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), SSH, and wireless security. This is an educated guess, but I'd expect to see even more on router and switch security as well.

Judging from that list, I expect the 640-802 CCNA exam to be even more challenging than the current version. Like I said, you have plenty of time to pass the current version! ;)

Don't see your question answered here? Send your CCNA question to chris@thebryantadvantage.com, and you just may see it answered in the next CCNA certification FAQ!

Autoresponder A Major Consideration in Building a List

One of the first considerations in building a mailing list should be how am I going to handle all those names that I will have in my list. An autoresponder is the answer to this nice to have problem.

When you study successful Internet entrepreneurs, the most common theme that runs through the success of these individuals is building a list of customers who then become faithful repeat customers. You know from your off-line life that the businesses that you continually use are the ones that do a good job and treat you right. Once you gain confidence in them, you continue to go back to them. The same is true on the Internet.

An eBook called The 30 Day Blueprint for Success tells convincing stories of the importance of building a mailing list. The book is a compilation of articles from 15 highly respected Internet professionals from different arenas of the Net who were challenged with the following scenario:

Dear Internet Marketing Expert,

You suddenly lose all your money, along with your name and reputation, and only have your marketing know-how left.

You have bills piled high and people harassing you for money over the phone.

Plus, you have a guaranteed roof over your head, a phone line, and an Internet connection for only one month.

You no longer have your big guru name or JV partners. Other than your vast marketing experience, youre an unknown newbie.

What would you do, from day 1 to day 30, to get yourself back on top?

(The above quote was excerpted from Volume I of The 30 Day Blueprint for Success.)

The most common method that these individuals used was to rebuild a customer list as quickly as possible so they could be effective in rebuilding the business they once had. Just as an aside, the book was very revealing about the thought patterns of these experts during their 30 day quest to restore the income stream that they once enjoyed.

I was fortunate to be able to attend a class taught by my friend and mentor, Jim Cockrum (author of The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay). During the class, he said that if his office caught fire the first thing he would save was the backup of his mailing list.

How to Manage a List - Autoresponders

Some might consider this a little backwards, but lets plan for how we are going to handle the list before we figure out how to build it. We need to be able to capture basic information like name and email address. We need to be able to automatically send a reply to the person joining the list and verify that they were indeed the person who sent the request to join. (This is called double opt-in and it is vitally important so you can prove that you are not sending SPAM to the members of your list). We will need to send out emails to all the people on the list in the future when we start communicating with the customers on the list.

To handle this in any volume on your own is an impossible task, but there are services called autoresponders on the Internet that will handle all of this for you.

There are free autoresponders such as FreeAutoBot.com and there are paid autoresponders such as Aweber.com and GetResponse.com. Free sounds good for a start up, but the downside is the fact that the autoresponder puts its link and sometimes places advertising in the emails that it sends for you. This does not look as professional as a message from a paid autoresponder.

If you use a free autoresponder and then want to switch over to a paid one later, you face the conversion problems of converting your mailing list. This can be done with import features in autoresponders that allow for mass input of lists. However, this is additional work and the autoresponder will take a close look at the list since this is how large SPAM mailing lists are loaded into an autoresponder. This is your choice and should be carefully researched before you make your decision.

Lets discuss the autoresponder, Aweber.com. The site has a 30 day free test drive that will allow you to experiment with it and decide if it is for you. Go to http://www.aweber.com look around.

If you decide to use it (and you will have to use an autoresponder to build a list of any size), one month of service from Aweber.com is $19.95 as of this writing if you start off with a monthly plan. Once you are satisfied that this is for you, you can save $60.00 per year with an annual plan.

After you have registered, log into Aweber.com and go to the How to Get Started page. This is very complete and has great instructions and tutorial videos to help you set up your first autoresponder.

Compose your email to send in MS Word or similar word processor. This will help you with spelling and grammar. Then open MS Notepad or a similar text editor. Notepad strips off the word processor formatting in preparation for copying and pasting your message into the Aweber input screen.

If you use MS Notepad , it is found under Accessories in Programs on your MS Windows. If you have not already done so, set up a shortcut icon on your desktop or on your systems tray for Notepad. It is very handy to be able to open this quickly. It can be used as a scratch pad for copying and pasting information from web pages to print or save for later use.

Each week when the weekly issue of Boomer eZine is being prepared for publication these are the steps that are followed:

1. Log onto Aweber and set up what is called a Broadcast Message.

2. Copy the newsletter from MS Word and paste it into Notepad.

3. Copy the text from Notepad and paste it into the input area on Aweber.

4. Check the formatting in Aweber.

5. Send a test email to myself to see how the email looks. This is a tool on Aweber.

6. If the email is acceptable, queue the broadcast message to send the Boomer eZine to all the names on the list.

The Aweber autoresponder automatically sends follow up emails. It is set up to send a follow up email 14 days after the initial sign up to thank a new subscriber to Boomer eZine for being a reader.

Now that we know there is a simple way to handle all those names that you will add to your list, go out and get started building your money making mailing list.

Good luck.

Ratings Of Web Site Building Software

The ratings of web building software and how they stand up against each other can only be found through testing, trial and error. Websites must be user and search engine friendly which both are very important so you would need to find a software that cater to both effectively in order to have a profitable site. You need to make the search engines love your site by giving great content and making them aware of what the site is about; you also need to have a structure that even a baby could navigate through as well. They're a number of software packages out their but most doesn't balance the search engines and user friendliness effectively.

So I'm going to give you the top three I've found out there.

I rank them in the order of the results I have received from search engines, profits and amount of visitors to the sites.

They are:

1. "Site Build It" from sitesell.com

This browser based software gets number one in my ratings of web site building software. This allows its users to build web sites for the search engines and human users without any web site building experience. It has a step by step guide that takes you by the hand to building a web business; it helps you market that business as well. It helps you manage you pay per click campaigns, affiliate programs, site hosting, newsletter distribution; it also teaches you the fundamentals of building an online business. This is much more than just software.

The developers of this software also monitor the search engines to make sure you're following their rules at all times.

If you also have an existing web business then you can still use this software on that as well, it allows you to transfer your site to their software or you can just build another bigger better website from scratch; that would be my recommendation.

I give this tool 10 out of 10.

2. Websitewizard.com

This beauty is your next best bet to building a decent web based business.

It helps you do a lot of the leg work to get started, you get some excellent shopping cart and card processing software and you please your human and search engine users as well.

You can't ask for a lot more than that. Well actually you can but that is what they offer along with some great customer service.

I give this software 7 out of 10.

3. Instantestore.com

This piece of software is good because it sets you up to take orders from the first time you open up your e-commerce store.

Although it is great for building web sites and it can hold its own when it comes to the search engines, it needs a little work to become a full fledge marketing and web building tool.

For now it could get you up and running where site users and search engines are concerned. You will have to handle the other marketing aspects on your own.

I give this software 6 out of 10.

Balancing both search engines and human users can be tricky sometimes even difficult but these three software packages makes it easier for you to manage and to get targeted visitors to your site.

My ratings of web site building software are from experience and from that I can say these do the best job in balancing the important aspects of web building although they're more aspects you should consider.

Is Your Website Being Read? Why People Dont Read Your Web Page

As the world virtually shrinks into the window on your computer screen, the web site is the best and a must-have tool for any business. Not only can it reach a global audience, it will boost your local exposure exponentiallyat a minimal cost.

However, your business web site isnt, and shouldnt be, just an electronic version of your product/service brochure. It could also be another potential revenue-generating source.

Just like a printed brochure, your web site doesnt get read by your visitors from top to bottom. At least not initiallyand not until you get them interested in what you have to offer.

First Impression

As the saying goes,

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

And nowhere is this truer than on the Web. Your prospects form an instant impression of you and your company the moment your home page displays onto their computer screens.

In a mouse click, your prospects determine who you are, how they feel about you, and decide if they want to do business with you. Is your web site creating the impression you want? Your business web site acts as a silent salesman for your business. Knowing this, wouldnt you want to dress it to WOW your customers?

Web Design vs Web Creation

Being able to draw doesnt make one an artist. Just as having written an essay doesnt make one a novelist. At least not without years of practice and training. Similarly, and with the widespread availability of professional software, you as a small business owner may choose to design-it-yourself (DIY). You may think you could create your own artwork, design a promotion flyer, build a web site.

However, to design something to visually communicate effectively and compellingly, you have to consider its clarity, font usage, readability.

Other things to consider are:

* Your business communications
* Branding and marketing mix

These are business communication problems to be addressed. You also need to consider its consistency, identity, colour, professionalism, integration, innovation and emotional impression.

Usability

Have you ever gone for a drive with a map someone else made and it is poorly drawn or just wrong? We all hate the frustration of getting lost. A difficult or inefficient navigation would break your web site as quickly and easily as it was created (by yourself). We evaluate the consistency, innovation, linkage, usability and presentation of the design.

We also evaluate the resolution requirements, complexity, consistency, usability to test the effectiveness of the web site layout.

How We Really Use the Web

In his book, Dont Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability, web usability guru, Steve Krug, writes:

When were creating sites, we act as though people are going to pore over each page, reading our finely crafted text, figuring out how weve organized things, and weighing their options before deciding which link to click.

What they actually do most of the time (if were lucky) is glance at each new page, scan some of the text, and click on the first link that catches their interest or vaguely resembles the thing theyre looking for. There are usually large parts of the page that they dont even look at.

How we really use the web site

Krug adds that if one wants to design effective Web pages, there are three facts about real-world Web use to consider:

1) We dont read pages. We scan them.

Why? Because:

* Were usually in a hurry.
* We know we dont need to read everything.
* Were good at it.

2) We dont make optimal choices. We satisfice.

Why? Because:

* Were usually in a hurry.
* Theres not much of a penalty for guessing wrong.
* Weighing options may not improve our chances.
* Guessing is more fun.

3) We dont figure out how things work. We muddle through.

Why? Because:

* Its not important to us.
* If we find something that works, we stick to it.

eBay: Can You Really Make Money Here?

As a mother of two, Sarah was always busy. But, this did not stop her from finding her niche in the world. She had been designing beautiful jewelry for her friends for years. She gave them as gifts. She presented them to others who wished to buy them to give to their friends. She made each piece by hand and loved every minute of it. She knew, though, if she wanted to make any real money on this little business that she got going that she needed to find individuals that would pay for them. Her circle of friends was wearing them, of course, but she knew if they loved them so much that others would too.

Sarah took her search online and found eBay. This online auction house allowed her to easily place pictures of her products on their site and soon enough people were bidding on them. She was selling her own products. Later, she would open an eBay store that would promote more than just one product for her. She soon found herself spending more time at the post office than ever delivering her jewelry to her newfound audience.

eBay is by far one of the most sought after internet businesses to dip your hands into. But, if you don't have a lot of 'junk' lying around your home, you may find it hard to understand how you'll make any money in this business. Don't want to spend your days at garage sales and picking up other people's trash so that you have something to sell? Here are some numbers that will make you think twice about these things.

a. eBay has more than 1.2 million registered users. That is your customer based presented to you.

b. Of those, about 25,000 of them are making five figure incomes from their eBay businesses.

c. Not looking for full time? Consider part time eBayers can supplement their income by several thousand dollars a year.

If you aren't like Sarah and can't make a product to sell, as many of us wish we could, you'll find hundreds of other options too.

How Does eBay Work?

eBay is an online auction website. The website is designed to connect those that wish to sell products and those that want to find a great deal on products. The company is built on the fact that people want to get a better deal and love finding one. Just think about how you feel when you do go to that garage sale and find something that you want and can use in good shape for much less than what the retail stores sell it for. You know the shy smile that you get when you realize you are getting something for much less than what others have paid? You can think of eBay as a way to get those deals all the time.

From The Salesmanship Side

So, how do you sell and make an income on eBay? Most individuals start by cleaning house literally. They start by getting rid of things throughout their home that they simply do not need. When you can take stuff you don't use and make a few dollars off of it, you'll want to do it more. Cleaning just got profitable!

But, besides just selling things from around the home, those that are true eBay sellers realize that they need more to sell. Some will have their own products or services to offer. For example, some will sell crafts and such. Others will purchase products for next to nothing and sell them at a slight markup. This is where most eBayers make their money.

Wholesale Options Too

To find products to sell for low costs, many eBay sellers tap into the world of wholesale. Don't worry, there are plenty of companies offering services online for wholesale prices if you by in quantity. Let's say that you find out that XYZ Retailer has 10 refurbished MP3 players that you can purchase for $50 each. The new cost would be well over $100. Now, you can list them on eBay and make a solid profit on these, right?

Don't Make Less Than It's Worth

One problem that many mistakenly run into is not getting their money's worth out of the products. But, eBay has protection here too. If you don't want to lose any money on your MP3 purchases, you simply use a reserve on your auction. This term means simply that until the reserve is met, the product will not be sold. So, if Jane Doe is the only bidder and only bids a mere penny, she won't win the bid unless she raises her bid to meet your reserve or beyond.

Keys To Being A Successful Auctioneer

eBay is not the only company that you can auction with but with over 2.6 million users each day, it is definitely the one to go to in order to make that five figure income. Here are some tips to be successful.

a. Provide excellent, crisp and clear pictures. Make them as professional as possible by making them large enough to see detail. Offer several views. Along with the picture, provide an easy to read description. It needs to be detailed and can often be borrowed from the manufacturer's website. List the quality of the product and be clear about the condition it is in.

b. Drive feedback up. One of the risks of eBay is that people are leery about providing their information to you. Will you deliver? The way to know if a seller is worth the risk is through their feedback rating. Keep yours high. Do this by delivering fast, answering questions quickly and clearly and being courteous. Also, make sure that you make your deliveries as safely as possible. Provide a guarantee of the product's quality and deliverables.

So, can you make Sarah's story your story? Do you have a hidden ability to make a product? Or, perhaps you are able to help friends get rid of their products too. In fact some individuals actually pay people for things that they know will sell well on eBay and make a killing on it! It could be a good thing to start a business just by selling what's lying on your desk right now. Hmmm, what could you sell?

eBay may be the place for you to make a solid income. Consider taking a course to make sure you get all the tips and tricks out there.

Back to School Time Management

The kids are headed back to school and it feels like you should have a lot of extra time on your hands. Why arent you able to accomplish all that needs to be done? Time management is a big struggle no matter what stage of life youre in. As work at home moms, it is even more important that we manage our time wisely. Below are five tips on how you can accomplish more during the time the kids are in school.

1. Set your priorities Its important to map out not only what needs to be accomplished during the time that you have allotted each day, but also what things are most important. Make a list of the tasks that need to be accomplished and then rank them according to deadline, desire to complete, etc. Keep in mind that the more you can do while the kids are in school, the more time youll have with them the rest of the day. If at all possible, make time with you spouse and children the center of your day and try to work around it.

2. Schedule your time Now that you know what order your list needs to be accomplished in, take the time to write out a schedule of how and when you will complete each item. This will give you a tangible way to see your progress each day. Your schedule doesnt need to be set in stone - it needs to be somewhat flexible so that it doesnt become burdensome. Having a plan of action will help you avoid distractions and accomplish more during the time you have available.

3. Delegate Whenever possible, delegate tasks that can be accomplished by others. Have your kids stuff envelopes, have hubby print out business cards for you, and if you have a virtual assistant (VA), allow them to do some of the online work or phone calls for you. The best thing Ive done for my business this last year is to hire a virtual assistant. She is fast, efficient and saves me a lot of time. I can be working with clients and making sales while she handles my article distribution and other tasks. The time saved is well worth the money spent.

4. Let the phone ring Customer service is one of the most important parts of running a home-based business. Being available for your customers and being willing to answer questions is what will set you apart from the many other businesses out there. However, if you are working to accomplish a task that is important to your business it may be necessary to allow the phone to ring and the answering machine to handle some calls. Im not suggesting that you ignore your customers, but that you use your answering machine for what it is a message service. By knowing who has called and what they need, you can call your customers back when you have time to work with them without feeling rushed. Also, by knowing what your customers need before your speak with them you can make preparations ahead of time, thus spending less time on the phone and saving both yourself and customer time.

5. Take a Break One of the biggest mistakes of work-at-home moms is to work too much. Because we are building our own businesses we feel that we will not succeed unless were working or at least thinking about work twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This simply isnt true. Taking care of yourself is one of the best things that you can do for your business. Focusing on something other than your business can give you clarity and help you avoid burn-out.

Running a home-based business while your children are in school is possible, but it does take efficiency and organization. Its very important that you set your priorities and your schedule your time in a way that is flexible and that allows you to get the most accomplished in the time that you have available. Dont get discouraged if it seems like youre not accomplishing much some days. Rest, go easy on yourself and do your best.

New Defense Secretary Changes Everything Perhaps

On Election Day, the American people spoke very strongly that the direction the President and the Republican Party was taking America towards, is not the direction the country wanted to go in. Presidents are not oblivious to polls. They may not honor them, but they are not oblivious to them. The most important issue in the campaign turned out to be two issues according to the exit polls. They were CORRUPTION, and IRAQ in that order.

The President was quick with a lightening type response to the election. I personally felt Donald Rumsfeld was going to be fired 3 or 4 weeks after the election to allow him to leave with his dignity intact. The President dispatched the now lamb duck Secretary within hours after the voters made their decisions. In doing so, the President is insuring that this Congress will ratify the nomination of Robert Gates, not a Democratic Congress convening in January of 07.

What type of man is Robert Gates, the D Sec as they call the Secretary of Defense? There are parallels to this selection. During the height of the View Nam war, after six plus years in office, Robert McNamara was a worn, beaten man troubled by his own running of that war. His children had even turned against him. His friends advised how can you continue to be a part of this mess? McNamara left, and Lyndon Johnson installed Clark Clifford, one of my heroes who was a legal advisor to every Democratic President since Harry Truman. Clifford was even Joe Kennedy's lawyer, the father of the future slain President.

Johnson thought that Clifford would turn into an absolute HAWK on Viet Nam, and turn up the pressure on the war. Instead, he advised Johnson, you are in an un-winnable situation, and I advise a negotiated settlement. Johnson swallowed hard, and announced he would not be his party's candidate for nomination, or re-election in the upcoming months.

Robert Gates the new incoming Secretary of Defense is this President's second attempt to reach out to his father's advisors to HELP HIM. In the last 3 years, not once has this President spoken to the most important advisor he could have spoken with, regarding what to do in Iraq - namely his father, George Herbert Walker Bush. Now when the Iraq war has turned into a quagmire with no end in sight, this President has chosen his father's CIA director Robert Gates, to step in and turn this thing around.

Gates was a student of Brent Scowcroft (former National Security Advisor), as was Condolezza Rice, our Secretary of State. Scowcroft is considered the ultimate low key professional who ran White House foreign policy when George HW Bush was President. Most people think Secretary of State James Baker called the shots, that's only partially correct. Scowcroft was the professional with the experience. Baker learned of course as the years went by, and became a very effective, diplomatic Secretary of State. Gates was there all the time, a totally professional intelligence analyst who is the only CIA career employee to rise from the bottom to become Director.

The President's current status

This President is in trouble, and the people who surrounded him called the Neo-Cons got him into the mess he's in. What you need to understand is that George Bush unlike many other politicians believes what he says, and says what he believes. Most politicians play to the crowd. This man's hero is probably Harry Truman, who walked out of the White House with an approval rating approaching 25% in 1953, and went on to be venerated by succeeding generations of Americans.

President Bush does not play to the crowd. This is evident in his news conferences when he can not help but show his feelings when reporters ask the stupidest "SHOWBOAT" questions. Bush will not have any part of it. He is an authentic guy that lives his life that way. If the Iraq Study Group chaired by former Secretary of State Baker, gives the President some very tough advice on Iraq, he just might take it. Bush is not a fool. He knows this war is not going well. He also knows the American people like to keep their Presidents on a short leash when it comes to wars, and the free ride is now over.

For the moment, the pressure on President Bush can only get worse. Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld was taking the heat that rightfully belonged to the President. Rumsfeld as a foil for this country's anger is now gone. Bush will instead take the heat himself. He has no problem with that if he the President continues to believe in the righteousness of his actions, and for the moment he does. The President has been constantly underestimated by his opponents. You don't win two national elections, and one Congressional election in between by being a fool. Bob Gates is going to change things at the Defense Department, and change them quick.

Do not for one moment believe that Rumsfeld was wrong on everything he did, that's nonsense. He did get four big things terribly wrong. One, he underestimated the post Iraq war need for US troop levels. It takes more troops to govern a country and quell discontent, than to invade and take over. Two, He did acquiesce or instigate the destruction of the Iraqi army. That army could have been utilized to re-build and govern post-war Iraq. We simply had to PAY THEM a sum of money equal to a fraction of what we are paying Halliburton for a failed US policy. Thirdly, he participated in, or instigated the firing of the Sunni's who ran the Iraqi government before finding COMPETENT REPLACEMENTS to replace those fired. They knew how to turn the electricity on, and keep the machinery of government functioning. Even General Patton at the tail end of WW II used Nazi bureaucrats until he could train his own bureaucrats. Fourthly, the Iraqi police were fired, and then new people had to be found, vetted, and trained 3 years have elapsed.

What does it mean? We will never know if democracy would have had a chance to flourish in Iraq. It is too late, too much time has been wasted to wait for that to happen. The President's team, and therefore the President FAILED in the EXECUTION of a policy that could have worked had it been implemented properly, perhaps, we will never know. The American people have now lost patience in waiting for this President to correct his own mistakes and forced change upon him via an election. Robert Gates is his first response. James Baker and the Iraq Study Group in the next couple of weeks will be his second response. Watch for changes in the Defense Department as soon as Gates is approved by the Senate. Does he fire the neo-cons one after another? If he does, you know we are on our way to a new policy.

Why So Many People Fail In Affiliate Marketing

More and More people are lured into affiliate marketing and you might be one of them. Indeed, affiliate marketing is one of the most effective means of generating a full-time income through the Internet. Its a fair deal between the merchandiser and his affiliates as both benefit from each sale materialized. Like in other kinds of business, a great deal of the profits in affiliate marketing depends on the affiliates advertising, promoting and selling strategies. Everyday, as affiliate marketing industry expands, competition heightens as well so an affiliate marketer must be creative enough to employ unique and effective ways to convince potential buyers to purchase or avail of the products and services offered.

Compared to traditional advertising practices, affiliate programs are more effective, risk-free and cost-efficient. But why do many people still fail in affiliate marketing? There are a lot of reasons and a lot of areas in the program to look into. The most critical aspect in the affiliate program is advertising. Many affiliate marketers fail in this aspect because they lack hard work, which is the most important thing in affiliate marketing and in all other kinds of business as well. Although it pays to be lucky, you cannot merely rely on it. Affiliate marketing isnt as simple as directing customers to the business site. If you want to earn big, of course, you have to invest time and great amount of hard work in promoting the products. As earlier mentioned, the competition is very high and customers nowadays are very wise, too. After all, who doesnt want to get the best purchasethat is, to pay less and get more in terms of quantity and quality.

Lack of preparation is also a reason why one fails in affiliate marketing, whether he is a merchandiser or an affiliate. Part of the preparation is researching. On the part of the merchant, he has to be highly selective in choosing the right affiliate websites for his affiliate program. In order to be sure he has the best choices, he must have exhausted his means in looking for highly interested affiliates whose sites are sure fit to his products and services. The affiliate sites visitors must match his targeted customers. On the other hand, the affiliate marketer must likewise research on the good-paying merchandisers before he signs up for an affiliate program. He must ensure that the merchants products and services match his interests so he can give his full attention and dedication to the program. He can get valuable information by joining affiliate forums, comparing different affiliate programs and reading articles on affiliate marketing where he can get tips from experienced affiliate marketers on how to choose the best merchants and products with high conversion rate.

The website is a very important tool in the whole affiliate program. As an affiliate marketer, you should plan how your site is going to be, from domain name to the design, the lay-out, the content, and ads. Some users are particular about what they see at first glance and thus when they find your site ugly, they wont read through the content even if your site has many things to say and offer. On the other hand, there those who want information more than anything else. Affiliate marketers with rich-content web sites are usually the ones who prosper in this business because the content improves traffic to the site. Websites with high quality contentswith relevant keywords and more importantly, right information about the product and not empty hyped-up advertisementsallow you to earn big in affiliate marketing even when youre asleep. If you wont be able to sustain the interest of your site visitor, you wont be able to lead him to the merchants site. No click-through means no sale and thus, no income on your part.

Selecting a top-level domain name is also crucial to the success of the affiliate program. Lots of affiliate sites dont appear in the search engine results because they are deemed by affiliate managers as personal sites. Major search engines and directories would think of your site as transient ones and thus, they wont list it in the directory. Before you decide on the domain name, know first what you are going to promote. Many fail because their sites are not appropriately named, so even when they feature the exact products the customer is looking for, the customer might think the site is not relevant and thus, wont enter the site.

Above all, an affiliate marketer must be willing to learn more. Certainly, there are still a lot of things to learn and so an affiliate marketer must continue to educate himself so he can improve his marketing strategies. Many fail because they dont grow in the business and they are merely concerned about earning big quickly. If you want long-term and highly satisfactory results, take time to learn the ins and outs of the business. Continue to improve your knowledge especially with the basics in affiliate marketing ranging from advertising to programming, web page development, and search engine optimization techniques. Likewise, study the needs and wants of your site users and how different merchandisers compete with each other.

Keep on trying; dont get disappointed if your first attempts did not pay off. Thousands are attracted by the possibility of generating skyrocketing incomes through affiliate marketing and so they sign up in any affiliate program without carefully understanding every aspect of the business. When they dont get instant results, they quit and sign up for another program and repeat the process of just copying links and referring them to others. When you sign up for an affiliate program, dont expect to get rich in an instant. Work on your advertising strategies and be patient. Youll never know how much you can get if you dont persevere.
